Attorney Robert McKinley Carter maintains law offices in Tacoma and Seattle, Washington, and helps clients throughout the Puget Sound area in the fields of personal injury, family law, and employment discrimination.
Mr. Carter received Bachelor of Arts degrees in Political Science and Ethnic Studies at the University of Washington and earned his law degree from the University of Oregon School of Law, graduating in 1978. He was admitted to practice in the state of Washington the following year and began a long career in corporate America, working for entities such as the Washington Public Power Supply System, Rockwell International, Westinghouse, and Johnson Controls.
After more than 20 years in the corporate world, Mr. Carter decided to return to his roots and to the reason he went to law school in the first place – to help make a difference in the lives of the disadvantaged and improve the conditions of underserved African Americans and the poor. He opened his own office with a focus on personal injury law and expanded to also take on cases involving divorce and family law, and illegal employment discrimination based on factors such as race, age, gender and disability. His experiences in big business have given him a unique insight and perspective on the strategies and mindset of employers, businesses, and their insurance companies, which has aided him in providing effective representation for his individual clients.
Mr. Carter is licensed to practice in the states of Washington, New York, and Mexico. This wide range of experience has further helped him in understanding how to apply the law in a persuasive manner to judges, juries, arbitrators, insurance companies and other lawyers across a vast assortment of personalities and perspectives.
